A bug which could cause PodcastStation to crash when double-clicking a marker in the Marker view has been fixed.
Version 2.1.08
2007 March 15
PodcastStation is now Vista-friendly. The installer no longer attempts to install an incompatible runtime package (Windows Media), and some minor adjustments to Vista's view of the system audio devices have been made in the AudioDevices property pages. The Advanced Effects menu has been temporarily removed for users running on Vista because of a change in the programming interface for Microsoft DirectX Media Objects (DMOs). We are researching this issue and will have a fix in a future release.
PodcastStation once again works with the current version of SAM (Skype Answering Machine).
A bug regarding placement of markers during an insert-record has been fixed.
Version 2.1.06
2007 January 17
Minor cosmetic changes only.
Version 2.1.05
2006 December 22
A problem affecting the quality of MP3 exports was unwittingly introduced in version 2.1.00, but has now been fixed. The problem was especially acute in files encoded at bitrates around 128kbps and below, and could be heard in headphones as an objectionable flange-like artifact.
Several minor bugs in the RSS Publication Wizard have been fixed, and means for exerting greater control over enclosure and item URLs have been added.
It is once again possible to reopen the application after having closed it with the main window minimized.
A slight glitch in audio selection (click-drag with the mouse) after using the mouse to start/stop recording has been fixed.
Version 2.1.00
2006 October 27
A bad memory leak has been located and fixed. This bug would have affected anyone using Podcast Station continuously for more than a few hours.
The LAME MP3 encoder has been more tightly integrated into Podcast Station, making it slightly faster and allowing the progress meter to be more accurate.
Deck buttons in segue mode no longer fire the next button if you click/drag in the button's progress meter while it is playing.
For beta testers of Windows Vista, Podcast Station now correctly locates the audio devices on the system.
The transcription feature can now be enabled and disabled from the Settings menu. It is now disabled by default, so as not to interfere with other applications.
Version 2.0.7
2006 October 11
A bug affecting the interaction between carts/decks and the pause button has been fixed.
The release note regarding version 1.1.6 notwithstanding, PCS no longer enters an infinite loop when a folder containing files assigned to a cart or deck button is moved.
Version 2.0.6
2006 September 27
The main window can now be resized to add up to 30 decks and 70 carts.
Loop mode is now an option on all deck and cart buttons.
A rewind pad has been added on the left side of all deck buttons.
"Pro" mode adds an auto-segue feature and user-settable start/stop positions to each deck button, as well as an auto-crossfade function between each pair of decks.
New effects include noise reduction and fade in/out.
Podcast Station now interfaces with Skype Answering Machine (SAM) from KishKish.com, allowing Skype calls and messages to be imported into PCS with one mouse click (SAM Gold and Platinum editions only).
Enable mono-mix recording to put the microphone input into both left and right channels.
Version 1.1.6
2006 August 23
Podcast Station no longer crashes when a file assigned to a cart or deck button is deleted or moved.
Version 1.1.005
2006 August 1
The cut/paste operation now works across files, not only within one file.
Graphics drawing functions have been rewritten and optimized to reduce flicker.
Clicking within the slider channel of the cart or deck fader with the faders linked now correctly moves both of these faders in tandem.
Version 1.1.0.2
2006 June 22
The audio/mixer subsection has been extensively overhauled. Mixing is now performed internally in software (although the old-style hardware mix is still an option). You no longer have to use the Stereo Mix or "What-U-Hear" line in the record mixer. If you are using a secondary record device or an external mixer, that is no longer necessary. PCS is now much more "device agnostic" than before, and should work with any audio device that has a DirectSound-compatible WDM driver (ASIO drivers are still not supported).
The Players fader has been split into a Carts fader and a Decks fader. The Record and Line-In faders have been removed. The dynamic range of the cart and deck faders can be calibrated to more closely match the actual dynamic range of your audio device using the DYN button.
AGC (Automatic Gain Control) can now be easily enabled/disabled from the front panel. Additionally, it can be positioned in the signal path in two different places, in order to affect either the microphone input only, or the combination of carts, decks and microphone. If you have never used the AGC and want to, the default settings are a good place to start.
The progress bars under each cart and deck button can now be used as position sliders. Click on these bars while playing and play continues from that spot. Click while not playing and play will start from that point next time button is pushed.
Several changes have been made in the Publication Wizard. Most importantly, it is now possible to specify the enclosure URL explicitly, as well as the name of the generated RSS file.
Cart and Deck buttons may now be labeled or relabeled with a right click and the Label command.
A Pause button has been added, allowing playback and recording to be paused and resumed. Pausing or stopping a recording now stops any carts or decks that are playing.
Version 1.0.0.7
2006 April 14
Podcast Station now supports most external USB and FireWire audio interfaces. The User Guide has been amended to include diagrams of various audio configurations with internal and external audio devices.
It is now possible to record from two audio devices simultaneously.
Several problems in the Mixer Configuration window have been fixed, including a bug which prevented some mixer source line selections from "sticking".
ID3 tags can now be added to an exported file without going through the Publication Wizard.
Version 1.0.0.5
2006 March 30
The audio devices interface has been more tightly integrated with the Windows audio system. There is now an option to use the default Windows audio devices, and the Windows system audio devices properties page can now be opened directly from Podcast Station's audio devices interface. Menu commands providing access the Windows Mixer Manager have been removed; the Mixer Manager can now be accessed through the audio devices properties page.
Podcast Station no longer crashes after changing audio devices.
The mixer configuration window is now more tolerant of a wider variety of audio mixer architectures.
Cart and deck buttons now play properly from the audio device selected in the Audio Devices dialog, not just the default system device.
The ability to delete the active file using Ctrl+D was inadvertently left out of earlier versions, and has now been restored. A file mistakenly deleted in this manner can be rescued with the "Restore Deleted File" command in the File menu.
A waveform drawing error that showed up while zoomed in mono mode has been fixed.
Version 1.0.0.4
2006 March 16
The Export and New File from Selection commands in the main File menu are now available for cart/deck button files that have been loaded into the edit window.
Import and export functions now work for users logged in to limited or restricted Windows accounts.
The marker view window is no longer loaded automatically when a file containing markers is loaded into the edit window. The marker view will open automatically if you click on a marker beneath the timeline slider, or if you add a new marker.
A problem that caused certain dialog windows (error messages) to get hidden behind other windows has been fixed.
Functions within the main window (VU meters, cart/deck playback, recording) now continue to work while virtually any dialog window is open.
Several cosmetic graphical display problems have been fixed.
The "check for updates" function has been revised to give you direct online links to this page and the download page.
You are no longer prompted to save your configuration when you haven't changed it.
Version 1.0.0.3
2006 March 7
The timeline slider is now disabled when the edit window is empty.
The markers window is now closed when you cancel a recording into which you have placed markers.
A few revisions were made in the User Guide to clarify terminology.
Version 1.0.0.2
2006 March 3
